COVID-19 has seen me escaping to nature so much more frequently than ever before. I have found so much solace in long walks. Slowing down and taking in nature is something that is so achievable when we set aside time, it seriously improves my productivity as well so I don't mind taking time away from study.
I never thought there would be anywhere 'nice' enough near me. No instagrammable tracks, or rolling English countryside, but actually I have surprised myself with the walks I have found. There have been secret waterfalls, windy wooden staircases and thick bush that I've navigated, all inspiring me greatly, especially when it comes to photography.
The barrier for me when it comes to exercise is usually the mental switch of 'okay I have to put on my workout gear, and sacrifice the next hour for this', but then I had this small epiphany of realising its okay to wear normal clothes on my walks, to not have to schedule them in and just be more relaxed around the whole task. Its so much easier to just go on the walk when I can run out the door in the clothes I'm wearing with no set expectation of how long I will go for. Today I walked for 2 hours on a beautiful riverside track, yesterday I just walked around the block. And thats fine!
Today was cold. I threw on my fleece leggings, merino jumper and canvas jacket to navigate a new track. Exploring is so exciting when there is no pressure to go at a set pace and there is no one to stop you from choosing what you want to do. I love to listen to podcasts so it feels like I have company and then just wander for as long as I like before turning around.
